National Association of South African Sheriffs

ABOUT US

Here you will find who we are, why we formed, our main aims and objectives, our Constitution, the act and rules of various courts, judgements pertinent to our profession, as well as an advertising platform for sheriffs’ sale in execution and administration forms.

We also furnish you with a brief synopsis of some of our programmes.

We are a group of SA sheriffs, deputies and staff who were participants of the Sheriffs WhatsApp group which has now evolved into a voluntary association – NASAS. We formed because many within the sheriff’s industry felt that our expectations from the current associations are not met.

Our main objective is to do all that is good for the profession. To this end, we endeavour to seek new revenue streams and protect and seek fee increases for current work.

As per our Constitution, we align ourselves to all the human rights enshrined in the SA Constitution. We are a democratic, non- racist, non- sexist and transparent association that is fully accountable to its members and stakeholders.

We interact with all stakeholders and role players affecting the profession, including the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development and its Minister, the South African Board for Sheriffs, the Rules Board, the UIHJ, (the universally recognized sheriffs’ body) NSP Pillar 3, The Banking Forum, Legal Aid, the Labour Court, the GEEC Gauteng and Pretoria High Court registrars, the major stores providing credit for service of their S129 notices, The Road Traffic Management Corporation, SASETTA and other potential work sources.

Exclusive to NASAS members:

For your convenience, and exclusive to NASAS members, we present, free of charge, the pertinent act and rules of the Constitutional Court, the High Court, the Magistrates’ Court, the Small Claims Court. This alone would cost members thousands of rands. We also publish a list and links of case law affecting the industry. These are divided into immovables, rescissions etc. as well as Labour Court judgements.

We further furnish links to legislation such as the Consumer Protection Act, the National Credit Act, the Domestic Violence Act, the Public Financial Management Act, the State Liability Act etc. We also provide an online advertising platform accessible to the public.

Regretfully only NASAS members will be allowed to advertise here. Why is this so?

We state with the utmost respect that there are many colleagues who are benefitting from the NASAS WhatsApp group but who do not wish to commit to NASAS. Many signed up NASAS members are of the view that those who are not committed, should not benefit from the commitment and financial contributions of those who have signed up. We take full cognisance of the sheriffs who are unable to pay any fee or donation, due to financial constraints. Please note that we will never turn our backs to needy colleagues, as this would be a clear violation of our values and objectives. We place our members interests, above all else, at heart.

We need your support by way of membership even though you would be unable to pay the subscription fee which we would be willing to write off.

In addition to the above – what do we offer?

  • We have provided training nationally over the last 2 years on the new attachment rules and administration of trust accounts. We have reached out to over 300 learners during this time both face to face and online. We will be proceeding with training on the new on-line service of domestic violence processes in the near future.
  • We are the principle initiators for fee increases at the Rules Board and the Banking Forum.
  • We have sold 9 laptops to our needy colleagues for R1000.00 each. The R1000.00 paid will be utilized to purchase more laptops to be sold once more, at a discounted rate, to other needy colleagues. (Ts & Cs apply).
  • We provide online assistance regarding our day-to-day operations to all who so request by way of colleagues giving a helping hand.
  • We provide a 6-month R20 000.00 interest-free loan to colleagues. (Ts & Cs apply).
  • We are currently negotiating with the developers of the motor vehicles tracing app for usage thereof and thereby removing the necessity of tracers.
  • We are leading the way in the adverse fee judgement.
  • These are but a few of our initiatives.

Is there anyone else doing this for you? If not please join us – you are most welcome.
